Project Details

The homeowners at this Chapel Hill property on Crystal Springs Ct had an unused gravel lot beside the house and no covered place to park. They wanted to turn that space into somewhere their cars could stay protected, with extra storage and the ability to charge an electric vehicle at home. Just as important, they wanted the new structure to look like it had always been part of the house, not something added on later.

‍

AG-CM started from the ground up. The crew excavated the lot, poured a concrete foundation, and framed a custom carport with a spacious covered parking area and an enclosed storage room built into the same structure. The roofline and siding were matched to the existing home, so the carport reads as part of the original architecture.

‍

Under the roof, shiplap boards cover the ceiling and give the parking area a warm, finished look that you don’t usually get in a carport. Recessed lighting runs through the ceiling and keeps the space bright for coming and going after dark. The enclosed storage room gives the homeowners a dedicated place for the things that would otherwise crowd the house or the driveway.

‍

An electric vehicle charger was installed in the carport, so the homeowners can park and charge in the same spot without running cords or relying on public chargers.

‍

The result is covered parking, extra storage, and at-home EV charging in one addition, built to match the house it sits beside and turning a gravel lot into a part of the home they use every day.
