Do you need a permit to finish a basement?

If you're adding a bedroom, the code also requires an egress window sized for escape, and the finished ceiling has to clear seven feet. Permit fees in the Triangle typically run $200 to $1,000. We pull the permits, schedule the inspections, and deal with the town.
